standards-based CORBA solution that ILIM has implemented has already
benefited business. ILIM has been able to offer its clients their
own web view of their funds being managed within ILIM. CORBA allowed
ILIM to develop this new service faster and at a lower cost than
other technologies.

The technical steps for migration of a large-scale banking
application towards a new and open application architecture are
discussed. Business needs and technical requirements demand a new
flexibility in application design. Flexible solutions can be better
built on solid ground in which the importance of a solid
architectural foundation like CORBA is emphasized. The development
of the CORBA/BCI-bridge includes several middleware design and
implementation recipes which may inspire other software architects
in comparable projects.

banking and securities distribution, and a leading provider of
private banking services. Possibly one of the world's largest
operational CORBA installations worldwide with 400 UNIX servers and
40,000 PCs, UBS has implemented in a joint effort with AdNovum, the
Interoperability Service Infrastructure (ISI), which is a CORBA 2.3
compliant ORB solution.
Raytheon Company
When Raytheon needed to update its complex Real-time distributed
Command, Control, Computer, Communications and Intelligence (C4I)
systems in the Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) applications domain,
the company adopted Object-Oriented (O-O) concepts and principles,
the C++ programming language and CORBA. These technologies played
central roles in the architecture and implementation of the next
generation system.
The
Weather Channel
The Weather Channel (TWC) used CORBA and Linux to
develop a system that provides reliability, doesn't require a
high level of operational support and offers the ability to
have detailed data logging. They were able to meet
these needs and slash their software development time from
months to weeks.
